Goodwill changes donation process during coronavirus pandemic

Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — Several Goodwill stores throughout the Southern Alleghenies have opened and are now accepting donations. Brad Burger, President and CEO of Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies, says they are making changes to their donation process to ensure items are safe to sell. Burger says all donation drop-offs are now contactless and can be done at donation bins around your area our outside stores. But he says to keep safe social distancing, employees cannot take the donations themselves and they’re asking people to not bring in large items.

Pirates sign two veteran pitchers to one-year deals

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates signed a pair of free agent pitchers Tuesday to one-year deals, according to multiple reports. Veteran right-hander Vince Velasquez signed a deal worth over $3 million. The 30-year-old posted a 4.78 ERA in 2022 over 9 starts and 18 relief appearances with the Chicago White Sox. Velasquez previously spent over five seasons with the Phillies, one full season with the Astros and part of a season with the Padres.

Roof Garden Tractor Buddies celebrate 20th anniversary

Over a hundred people gathered today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Roof Garden Tractor Buddies. The Roof Garden Tractor Buddies are a group of square dancing tractors here in Somerset county. They started in 2003 and have since grown in popularity and membership. Bill Blough is a local farmer and founder of the group. He came up with the idea after reading a newspaper article about dancing tractors in Iowa and decided to create something similar here.

Former Tyrone police sergeant charged for sexually assaulting juvenile: Court documents

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a former Tyrone police sergeant is accused of assaulting a juvenile. Tyrone Police Chief Jessica Walk confirms to 6 News that former Sergeant Jason Hollis is facing charges following a state police investigation. Court documents indicate Hollis faces charges related to unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, indecent assault, disseminating explicit sexual materials to minors, indecent exposure and other related offenses.

Pirates trade closer Rodriguez to Atlanta; receive INF Chavis from Boston

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates made a couple significant moves ahead of Friday afternoon's trade deadline. Pittsburgh dealt reliever Richard Rodriguez to the Atlanta Braves for a pair of right-handers: Ricky DeVito and Bryse Wilson. Rodriguez recorded a 2.82 ERA for the Bucs this season, and completed 14 of his 17 save opportunities. The Pirates also traded left-hander Austin Davis to the Boston Red Sox for former Top 100 prospect Michael Chavis.

Steelers TJ Watt to miss multiple weeks with MCL sprain

According to multiple reports, Pittsburgh Steelers' star pass rusher TJ Watt is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a sprained MCL in Saturday's victory over the Baltimore Ravens. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport says that an MRI confirmed that Watt suffered a "Grade 2" MCL sprain. Reports indicate that no other issues were found during the MRI and Watt is not expected to need surgery to repair the injury. Watt left Saturday's game in the third quarter after colliding with fellow teammate Montravius Adams.

Clinton mentioned one solution Hillary Clinton pushes for is more treatment facilities in our area.

Two western Pa men charged for partaking in Capitol riot

Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — According to a release from the Department of Justice, two Western Pennsylvania men have been arrested and charged for partaking in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Authorities say Jordan Mink, of Oakdale, and Matthew Perna, of Sharon, face charges related to criminal acts at the Capitol earlier this month. Investigators say Perna faces charges of unlawful entry on a restricted building, unlawful injury to property, violent entry, destruction of government property, theft of government property and aiding and abetting, while Mink faces charges of knowingly entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct.

'It breaks my heart:' Massive fire destroys well-known PA dairy farm

Beaver County, PA — A massive fire ripped through two barns at a well-known dairy farm in Beaver County Thursday night. The Brunton family has been on this land since the 1800s and has been operating a dairy farm for generations. “I called my daughter, and she said I can't talk now. The barn: the barn is on fire,” said family member Nancy Wolfe. It was a devastating fire, and aerial video shows just how severe and widespread this blaze was.
