Former IT employee sentenced to 23 months for sexually assaulting Bedford student

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General say a former Bedford County school IT employee has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a student. Officials say Jarrod Clapper was sentenced to serve 7 to 23 months in prison for sexually assaulting a student at the Bedford Area High School. Clapper was convicted in April on charges of institutional sexual assault and unlawful contact with a minor.

Boswell man faces homicide charges in shooting death of ex-girlfriend

BOSWELL – A Boswell man faces criminal homicide charges, accused of shooting and killing an ex-girlfriend and wounding another man, state police at Somerset said Monday. Jamie Paul McVicker, 41, also is charged with aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was arraigned Monday and taken to the Somerset County Prison. McVicker’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Police said that McVicker fatally shot Britteny Kyle with a FFV-Sweden 30.

PA Game Commission releases results of first 3 days of bear harvest

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials have released the preliminary results of the first three days of the 2018 bear harvest. The three-day total is 1,833 bears harvested, which the game commission said is a 12 percent increase over the 1,628 bears taken during the 2017 season’s first three days. Officials said bears have been taken in 54 counties so far during the statewide season. The top 10 bears processed at check stations either estimated or confirmed to have weights of more than 600 pounds, officials said.

Parents of young Chiefs fan in headdress sue sports blog for painting family as 'bigots'

Raul Armenta, Jr. and his wife, Shannon, allege Deadspin willfully spread “incendiary” lies about their child, identified as H.A. in the lawsuit obtained by Reasn.com, to fuel its "race-drenched" political agenda. “Deadspin has gone too far. H.A. should not have to live with his face being plastered on social media alongside false and defamatory accusations of racist conduct,” Raul and Shannon argue.

PennDOT audit finds over $4B diverted from repairing roads, bridges

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — A state audit of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has found that billions of dollars have been diverted over the years that could have been spent repairing roads and bridges. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale announced the findings of his new audit Thursday, saying that PennDOT could be further along in repairing rough highways and fixing 2,829 structurally deficient bridges had it not been forced to pay state police.

Migrant charged with murder after fatal stabbing outside NYC shelter

NEW YORK CITY (TND) — A migrant fatally stabbed another migrant outside of a New York City shelter on Sunday after a "verbal dispute," according to the New York City Police Department. Oscar Gonzalez is accused of stabbing Argeyeris Martinez near the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center in East Harlem. Gonzalez was charged with murder and aggravated criminal possession of a weapon. Both men lived at the shelter. The shelter is one of several New York City Mayor Eric Adams has used to house the nearly 200,000 migrants that have arrived since Spring 2022 while pleading with the Biden administration for help.
