Mo-Valley prison to reopen as federal immigrant detention center, commissioners say

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Clearfield County took public comment and voted on allowing an area prison to operate as an immigrant detention center. Clearfield County commissioners approved a five-year agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, and the privately-run GEO group to operate Moshannon Valley Correctional Center as an immigrant detention center. The prison closed in March, but the deal wasn't without its concerns. Commissioners say that migrants will not be released from the facility into Clearfield County.

Coroner ID's Cambria County man who drowned in Carrolltown pond

UPDATE | CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a Cambria County man drowned early Monday morning in a pond in Carrolltown. Crews were called just before 4 a.m. The Cambria County Coroner's office says a dive team recovered 42-year-old Eric Bender just after 5 a.m. Officials say that pond is about 10 feet deep. They say Bender lived about 100 yards away from the water. Lees says Bender was taken to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center Emergency Room and couldn’t be resuscitated.

Driver slams into cars, runs from police with small child in back seat

PEACH COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A Georgia woman is in custody after a chase in which she allegedly hit multiple people and vehicles. Local police officers were told to be on the lookout for an SUV driving recklessly. The caller told officers that the driver was weaving into the opposite lane, nearly hitting oncoming vehicles. As the vehicle made it to an intersection, witnesses blocked the driver in. When Byron police arrived, they tried to talk to the driver, who was uncooperative and refused officers' commands, police say.

Steelers signing former Commanders' LB to 3-year deal

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly agreed to sign former Washington Commanders' linebacker Cole Holcomb to a three-year deal. The 26-year-old started 48 career games during his time with Washington after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has played in 50 total games during his four years in the league, recording 4.5 sacks and 388 total tackles, as well as three interceptions and five forced fumbles.

Suspect charged after being accused of assaulting victim with American flag

Dozens of kids, two adults hospitalized after school bus collides with tow truck in Luzerne County

Luzerne County, Pennsylvania — A school bus carrying nearly 50 children collided with a tow truck in Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County Wednesday. Officials say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Route 115 as the bus was making its way to Bear Creek Community Charter School. Pennsylvania state police said the driver of the tow truck is believed to have suffered a medical issue while driving, causing them to cross over the road and strike the bus.

Johnstown approves $75k naming rights contract for Point Stadium

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — As part of a new five-year contract between the city and Sargent's Group, the Point Stadium will soon have a new alliterative name: "Sargent's Stadium at the Point." City Council has been looking for a company to buy naming rights for the stadium since at least last year, when it began seeking proposals from local companies. This one will see Sargent's paying $15,000 a year for five years for the rights.

Local small businesses in Bedford County receive additional CARES Act Funding

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Many businesses are still feeling the effects of the major shutdowns which occurred at the start of the pandemic. But in Bedford County, more money was just awarded to dozens of local businesses to help. The Bedford County Commissioners awarded a second round of over $500,000 to local businesses who are struggling because of the pandemic. The types of businesses range from restaurants to retail stores and even gyms.
