No one injured following house fire in Friedens

SOMERSET CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to officials with the Friedens Fire Department, no one was injured following a house fire Saturday afternoon along Meadow Street. 911 officials say the fire broke out just before 2:30 p.m. at a single-story residence along the 100 block of Meadow Street. Crews from Friedens, Listie, Stoystown, Somerset and Sipesville fire departments were all on scene to assist. Friedens fire department says both occupants were able to safely make it out of the residence and the Red Cross is assisting the family.

One officer killed, one injured following shooting in McKeesport

Pittsburgh (WPXI) — Authorities say one police officer was killed and another was injured in a shooting Monday near Pittsburgh. Officials say the officers were responding to a domestic situation in McKeesport when a man opened fire on the officers. Authorities say one officer died and the other remains hospitalized following surgery. Police say the gunman was also shot and his condition has not been released. Both officers are members of the McKeesport Police Department.

New PA Safe Access office helps patients receive medical marijuana

HUNTINGDON – A new office in Huntingdon County is helping people take the proper steps to receive medical marijuana. It comes after Gov. Tom Wolf signed the “Medical Marijuana Act" into law early last year. It's been a long time coming but the Pennsylvania Safe Access office is open and can now help patients register with the department of health to potentially receive medical marijuana. The doors opened at the Huntingdon location over the weekends and already officials say more than 3,800 people have registered statewide.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State has fired its Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich following the Nittany Lions' 24-15 loss to Michigan on Saturday. According to multiple reports, Yurcich was relieved of his coaching duties on Sunday, a decision that was confirmed by the University Sunday afternoon. Yurcich was hired by Penn State in 2021 after serving as the OC the year prior at the University of Texas. Bellefonte man, 76, dies from injuries sustained in Spring Township crash

UPDATE | Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Spring Township Police Department say a 76-year-old man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash last Friday afternoon. Police say officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Blanchard Street around noon Friday for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Authorities say Andrew Swarm, of Bellefonte, has died after being seriously injured in the crash.
